Week 11 Summary

In week 11s lesson, I learnt of the different electronic payments, benefits of e - commerce, technological limitations, lack of accepted security standards, insufficient telecommunications, expensive accessibility, non - technology limitations, unresolved legal issues, slack of critical mass of buyers and sellers. One of the first things we learnt was what organizations use their websites for which is to Sell goods and services, induce people to visit physical locations, reduce operational and transaction costs and enhance reputation. Learning of the different types of e - commerce was informative as I know it may help me with starting a business one day, since technology is rapidly growing, e - commerce and learning of its types  is an advantage. Another key point which stood out to me was learning about the degree of digitization, the extent to which commerce has been transformed from physical to digital. I also valued learning the different e - commerce business models such as online direct marketing, affiliate marketing, viral marketing and electronic tendering system marketing. All this information is helpful as it adds to being a knowledgeable user in a generation where technology is slowly taking over.

Week 10 Class Summary

For this class, we learned all about social computing, the fundamentals of social computing, web 2.0 applications, social computing in business with association to shopping, social computing in business in association to marketing, social computing in business in association to customer relationship management, and human resource management and crowdsourcing. It was easy for me to learn more information with the help of the 7 learning objectives. I've learnt in this lesson that social computing is a very important aspect in the growing environment of businesses and their relationship with technology, for marketing, it's useful in advertising and market research, for Human resource management, it helps with recruiting, to seek the online presence of the candidates and assists with training as well. We also learnt of social commerce and its benefits to customers and businesses, such as customers helping each other and their expectations can be met quickly, for businesses there are benefits such as learning a lot about their customers, creating better marketing campaigns and they get free advertising through viral marketing. All in all, social computing is essential to learn as it could be applied in a business and this class was also helpful in learning of the benefits and challenges to be derived from crowdsourcing to an organization.

Week 9 Blog

The class this week about Ethics and Privacy(the right to be left alone and to be free of unreasonable personal instructions). I learnt that Ethics are principles of right and wrong which individuals use to make choices that guide their behavior, with that said, we also learned of the 4 approaches to making ethical decisions, Utilitarian Approach, Rights Approach, Fairness Approach and Common Good Approach. There was also an ethical framework we learnt of which can help guide us to make ethical decisions, it also prompts reflections on the decisions we make with the assistance of the fundamental tenets of ethics. Parallel to Ethical decision, privacy can be an issue in the workplace and it becomes unethical when privacy is breached. It would be okay if an organization chooses to keep track of their employees and their information but ensuring employees are aware of their policy ensures that ethical standards are considered. There are certain circumstances where ethics can be breached due to Cultural Relativism but at best being ethical is the right decision for a company but also keeping in mind that what is unethical is not unnecessarily illegal.
